Rapper Vedan Accused of Serial Sexual Assault; Bail Plea Under High Court Lens

Kochi: Rapper Vedan, whose real name is Hirandas Murali, is facing mounting allegations of sexual assault, with the complainant in the ongoing rape case describing him as a “habitual offender” before the Kerala High Court.

During the hearing of his anticipatory bail plea, the complainant revealed that apart from the present case, Vedan is facing other sexual assault charges along with two fresh complaints. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas allowed her to be impleaded as a party, and the bail plea will be taken up again tomorrow.

The Thrikkakara police registered a case on July 31, based on allegations that Vedan repeatedly assaulted the complainant between August 2021 and March 2023 under the false promise of marriage. Police had earlier issued a lookout notice to prevent him from fleeing abroad.

Vedan, however, denied the charges, claiming the relationship was consensual and alleging a conspiracy to damage his reputation. He further stated that he and his manager had received threat calls warning that multiple women would level similar accusations.

The court has sought a detailed police report. The complainant also informed the court that in 2020 and 2021, two other women had filed sexual assault complaints against Vedan with the Chief Minister, which were later forwarded to the Director General of Police (DGP).
