On the 26th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended heartfelt greetings to the nation, honouring the unparalleled courage of India’s soldiers who laid down their lives during the 1999 Kargil War. In a message posted on X, he said: “This occasion reminds us of the unmatched valour of the brave sons of Mother India who protected the nation’s honour. Their spirit of sacrifice will forever inspire future generations. Jai Hind!”
Across the country, leaders and citizens paid tributes to the heroes of Kargil. President Droupadi Murmu hailed their legacy as a lasting source of inspiration, while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called their supreme sacrifice a “timeless reminder” of the Armed Forces’ dedication.
Ceremonies were held at the National War Memorial in New Delhi and at Dras in Kargil, led by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, and the Chiefs of the Air Force and Navy. The occasion also saw the launch of the e‑Shradhanjali portal and a QR-based audio guide that narrates the stories of Kargil’s unsung heroes.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed every July 26, commemorates the Indian Army’s successful Operation Vijay to reclaim strategic peaks from infiltrators in 1999. This year’s observance not only honoured the valiant martyrs but also reinforced national unity, pride, and the enduring legacy of those who gave everything for the motherland.
