Kannur: CPI(M) leader and former district panchayat president P.P. Divya has moved the Kerala High Court seeking to quash the chargesheet filed against her in connection with the death of ADM Naveen Babu. Her legal counsel argues that the case is rooted in political and personal vendetta, not factual evidence.
According to Advocate K. Vishwan, who represents Divya, there is substantial evidence proving that ADM Naveen Babu accepted bribes, including a confession made by the ADM himself, as recorded in the statement of District Collector Arun K. Vijayan. The Collector’s testimony also reveals that Naveen Babu had conveyed his concerns to Revenue Minister K. Rajan before his death.
The chargesheet, however, names P.P. Divya as the sole accused, claiming that her farewell speech during the ADM’s send-off drove him to take his own life. Vishwan contends that this accusation is “nothing more than politically motivated mudslinging” and insists that multiple pieces of evidence indicate the ADM’s involvement in corruption, which undermines the case against Divya.
Divya’s legal team has dismissed the charges as baseless and misleading, asserting that the real circumstances of the ADM’s death are being intentionally misrepresented.
