Thiruvananthapuram – A brewing cyclonic circulation over southern Jharkhand is set to intensify monsoon conditions across Kerala, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next five days. Today (July 2), the state is expected to receive isolated intense showers, with moderate to heavy rain likely to continue until July 5.
Accompanying the rain, strong winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h are expected, adding to the stormy conditions across the state.
In response, the IMD has issued an orange alert for Kannur and Kasaragod, warning of very heavy rainfall in these districts. A yellow alert has been declared in Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad, where consistent downpours are likely.
The alert extends into the weekend, with Kannur and Kasaragod remaining under watch till Saturday, while Kozhikode and Wayanad brace for more rain tomorrow.
The IMD has also warned of isolated thunderstorms, lightning, and strong gusty winds, urging residents to stay vigilant, avoid risky travel, and follow all official safety advisories.
