Kerala on High Alert as IMD Predicts Torrential Rainfall; Red Alerts Issued, Flood Risk Looms

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala is bracing for intense rainfall over the next four days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing Red Alerts in Idukki, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts, indicating the likelihood of extremely heavy downpours. Orange Alerts are in place for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Kannur, while the remaining districts are under Yellow Alert. On Friday, Orange Alerts will be active in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, and Wayanad. Saturday will see Yellow Alerts in 14 districts, including Pathanamthitta and Kasaragod, while Sunday brings continued rain warnings for seven districts, such as Kannur and Wayanad. Raising further concern, authorities have also issued flood warnings for eight rivers, cautioning people in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain on high alert. With disaster response teams already deployed and the situation being closely monitored, the state is preparing for a critical weather event.
