The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will now conduct Class 10 board exams in two phases starting from the 2025 academic session.
The first phase, scheduled for February, will be mandatory for all students, while the second phase in May will be optional — designed exclusively for those who wish to improve their marks in select subjects.
Results for the first phase will be declared in April, and for the second phase in June. However, internal assessments will be held only once for the entire academic year.
Students will be given the opportunity to enhance their scores in up to three subjects from core areas such as Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Languages.
CBSE believes the new two-phase format will not only help reduce the pressure of single-exam performance but also improve evaluation efficiency and minimize redundancy in the assessment process.
