Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the grand celebrations marking the 150th Foundation Day of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. The event, scheduled for 10:30 AM, will highlight India’s remarkable achievements in meteorology and the nation’s ongoing commitment to climate resilience.

During the celebration, PM Modi will launch the much-anticipated ‘Mission Mausam,’ an initiative designed to position India as a ‘weather-ready and climate-smart’ nation. The mission aims to revolutionize India’s weather surveillance by deploying next-gen radars, satellites, and high-resolution atmospheric observations, along with enhanced air quality monitoring. This cutting-edge approach will drive a deeper understanding of weather and climate, aiding in long-term management strategies.

In addition, PM Modi will release the IMD Vision-2047 document, which lays the groundwork for advancing weather forecasting, climate change mitigation, and the nation’s overall resilience to climatic shifts. This forward-thinking document sets the stage for India’s meteorological advancements over the next two decades, aligning with the goals of sustainable climate management and disaster preparedness.

To celebrate its 150 years of service, IMD will also host a series of events, workshops, and exhibitions to showcase its achievements in safeguarding the nation against extreme weather and advancing scientific research.

The launch of Mission Mausam and the IMD Vision-2047 document marks a pivotal step in strengthening India’s meteorological infrastructure and addressing the global challenge of climate change.
