The Supreme Court has directed the Centre to respond to a petition urging the government to provide anti-venom for snakebites at health centers across India. With around 58,000 snakebite fatalities annually, mostly in rural areas, the petition stresses the need for a national prevention program and improved access to timely treatment. It calls for greater awareness and better healthcare infrastructure in rural regions, where immediate care for snakebite victims is often inadequate.
