Delhi recorded its coldest morning of the season as temperatures plummeted to 4.5°C, marking a sharp dip below the normal range. The official observatory at Safdarjung registered 4.9°C, while areas like Lodhi Road and Ayanagar also saw chilly conditions at 5°C and 6°C, respectively. The cold wave was exacerbated by icy winds sweeping from the northwest, resulting in dense fog and reduced visibility, disrupting road and rail traffic in some areas.
Neighboring regions like Hisar in Haryana recorded even lower temperatures, dipping to 4.2°C, making it the coldest spot in the plains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that these cold wave conditions are likely to persist over the coming days, with shallow to dense fog expected during the early morning hours.
Authorities have advised residents to take precautions against the cold and remain alert while traveling, especially in fog-prone areas.
