Delhi’s Air Quality Remains Critically Poor Amid Diwali Season, Government Intensifies Anti-Pollution Measures

For the second consecutive day, Delhi’s air quality remains at a critical level, with AQI readings surpassing 300 in various areas, reaching as high as 361 in Anand Vihar. This severe air quality dip is being driven by stubble burning from neighboring states, stagnant atmospheric conditions, and increased pre-Diwali pollution sources.

In response, the Delhi government has enacted stringent measures under GRAP II, banning diesel generators in most settings, limiting coal use in open eateries, and increasing road cleaning and water sprinkling. The “Red Light On, Gaadi Off” campaign also encourages drivers to switch off engines at red lights to reduce emissions. Despite these efforts, air quality is projected to worsen as Diwali nears due to unfavorable weather conditions and possible firecracker usage.
