Karwar: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday commissioned INS Samarthak, the Indian Navy’s first indigenous Multi-Purpose Vessel, at Karwar, Karnataka.
With over 75 per cent indigenous content, the vessel marks a significant step towards self-reliance in defence manufacturing and strengthens India’s indigenous shipbuilding capabilities, the Vice-President said.
He praised the Indian Navy for safeguarding the country’s maritime interests and its role in anti-piracy operations, evacuations and humanitarian assistance across the Indian Ocean Region.
