Thiruvananthapuram: The Keralam Legislative Assembly on Monday adopted a resolution calling for the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, amid mounting political opposition to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Chief Minister V. D. Satheesan moved the resolution, which comes against the backdrop of an intensifying campaign led by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against the election official over the contentious revision process.
Following the Assembly’s decision, Satheesan reiterated the need to safeguard citizens’ voting rights and uphold constitutional principles. In a post on X, he described the right to vote as the foundation of democracy and stressed that no institution should be permitted to undermine the constitutional rights of citizens.
He also reaffirmed Keralam’s commitment to ensuring free and fair elections, stating that the Constitution must be upheld and democratic principles protected.
