Surat: A 47-year-old woman with around one million followers on Instagram was arrested by the Surat Cyber Crime Branch for allegedly posting an objectionable reel involving Mahatma Gandhi’s image on a Rs 500 currency note, police said on Monday.
The accused, identified as Simran Patel, a homemaker from Adajan, was arrested under Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, according to a Cyber Crime Branch statement.
Police said Patel uploaded the reel on October 1, showing Gandhiji’s image on the currency note in an alleged vulgar manner, accompanied by objectionable statements and gestures with sexual references. The video was later shared on Instagram, following which a citizen approached the police, the statement said.
