New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on World Rhino Day highlighted India’s efforts to protect the greater one-horned rhinoceros and praised those involved in its conservation.
Modi said Assam is home to nearly 80 per cent of the world’s rhino population, while Kaziranga’s efforts to curb rhino poaching have received wide recognition.
He also highlighted rhino conservation and reintroduction efforts in Bihar, West Bengal and Dudhwa in Uttar Pradesh.
The Prime Minister said Project Rhino has been launched to provide financial and technical support to rhino-range states for protection, habitat management, genetic improvement and population studies.
