Kolkata: The Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), a Left Front constituent in West Bengal, has announced its withdrawal from the October 6 Rejinagar Assembly bypoll following a dispute over its election symbol.
RSP leader Manoj Bandopadhyay said the party was informed after the scrutiny of nominations that it could not use its traditional ‘spade and shovel’ symbol. Instead, the party was asked to contest under the ‘bucket’ symbol.
Bandopadhyay said the party decided to withdraw its candidate after the Election Commission did not permit the use of its traditional symbol, citing a technical issue.
Although the candidate’s name may remain on the electronic voting machine, Bandopadhyay said the RSP would not contest the bypoll.
