Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi on Friday for a three-day visit to India, during which he will attend the 18th BRICS Summit and hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on strengthening bilateral economic and energy ties.
Putin is leading a high-level Russian delegation for the visit. Discussions are expected to focus on expanding bilateral trade and investment, besides deepening cooperation in the energy sector.
The Russian president was received at the airport by Minister of State for External Affairs K V Singh.
Welcoming Putin, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India and Russia share longstanding and multifaceted ties rooted in their “Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership”.
Putin’s visit comes as India hosts the BRICS summit, bringing together leaders of major emerging economies for discussions on global and regional issues.
