Bengal Congress files police complaints against Bageshwar Baba over Durga Puja remarks

Kolkata: The West Bengal Congress has filed police complaints against Bageshwar Dham head priest Dhirendra Shastri over remarks he allegedly made regarding meat consumption during Durga Puja, claiming that his comments hurt the religious sentiments of Bengalis and could disturb communal harmony.

The complaints were submitted to the officers-in-charge of Bhawanipore and Nimtala police stations in Kolkata by the South Kolkata District Congress Committee and the North Kolkata District Congress Committee.

According to the Congress, Shastri made the allegedly derogatory remarks during an event in Howrah on September 5.

South Kolkata District Congress Committee president Pradip Prasad urged the police to take immediate action and register an FIR against Shastri.

The Congress alleged that the remarks were aimed at creating tension and disharmony and called for necessary legal action, including arrests.
