ICG Launches Search Operation After Panama-Flagged Ship Sinks

New Delhi: The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) has launched a search-and-rescue operation after a Panama-flagged bulk carrier carrying 24 crew members sank in the Bay of Bengal, officials said.

The vessel, MV Ocean Winner, sank around 240 nautical miles off the coast of Paradip in Odisha on Saturday, prompting the ICG to deploy three ships to locate and rescue the crew members.

According to an ICG spokesperson, the vessel had 20 Chinese nationals, three Myanmar nationals and one Bangladeshi national on board.

The bulk carrier had made Paradip its last port of call and was headed for Singapore, the spokesperson said.

The Coast Guard has mobilised its resources to trace the missing vessel and rescue the crew members. Further details on the search operation and the condition of those on board are awaited.
