Port Blair: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday visited the historic Cellular Jail in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and paid tribute to freedom fighters who endured immense hardships during India’s struggle for independence.
During his visit, the Vice-President laid a wreath at the Martyr’s Column and paid homage at the cell where freedom fighter Vinayak Damodar Savarkar was imprisoned.
Radhakrishnan also visited Swatantra Jyoti, the Central Tower, the gallows, and the museum and exhibition gallery at the historic prison.
He later witnessed the Light and Sound Show depicting the heroic saga of India’s freedom struggle and highlighting the sacrifices of the freedom fighters who were imprisoned at Cellular Jail.
The visit was aimed at honouring the courage and sacrifices of those who fought for the country’s independence.
