New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the Father Amir of the State of Qatar, HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, describing him as a visionary leader who transformed the Gulf nation through remarkable development and prosperity.
In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister said Sheikh Hamad’s leadership played a pivotal role in Qatar’s growth and remembered him as a true friend whom he had the honour of meeting during his visit to Qatar in February 2024.
“We deeply mourn the passing of Father Amir of the State of Qatar, HH Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. A visionary leader who led Qatar to great levels of development and prosperity, we remember him also as a true friend whom I had the honour of meeting during my last visit to Qatar in February 2024,” Modi said.
The Prime Minister conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the Amir of Qatar, HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the members of the royal family, and the people of Qatar.
He also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed leader, acknowledging his lasting contribution to Qatar’s progress and the strengthening of bilateral ties with India.
Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani is widely regarded as one of the architects of modern Qatar, having overseen the country’s rapid economic development and enhanced its global profile during his tenure.
