Congress Alleges Great Nicobar Project Threatens Environment

New Delhi: Congress leader Jairam Ramesh on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of pushing the Great Nicobar Island Project towards what he described as an “environmental disaster”, saying the country’s “ecological conscience is on trial.”

The former Union Environment Minister intensified his criticism of the project by highlighting its potential impact on the biodiversity-rich ecosystem of Great Nicobar Island.

In a post on X, Ramesh shared a compilation of his public interventions on the project over the past few years, including social media posts, speeches in Parliament, and letters exchanged with various Union ministers. He said the collection documents his long-standing concerns over the project’s environmental consequences and the government’s responses.
