
Guruvayur: The renovated lamp pillar (Deepasthambham) at the eastern entrance of the Guruvayur Temple was illuminated on Monday, casting a golden glow across the temple premises and delighting devotees.
The ceremonial dedication of the renovated structure to Lord Guruvayurappan was performed by Devaswom Minister K. Muraleedharan at around 6.30 p.m. The minister formally dedicated the lamp pillar by lighting its lamps.
The ceremony was attended by members of the family of Sir Chettur Sankaran Nair, whose family had originally donated the lamp pillar to the temple 119 years ago. Devaswom Chairman A.V. Gopinath, Managing Committee members Brahmasree Mallissery Parameswaran Namboodiripad, C. Manoj, Manoj B. Nair, and M.U. Shinija were also present.

The renovation was sponsored as an offering by Chennai-based businessman Sanal Kumar and his family. Temple Deputy Administrator M. Radha, Administrative Deputy Administrator Pramod Kalarikkal, Chief Engineer M.V. Rajan, Executive Engineer M.K. Ashok Kumar, V.B. Sabu, Assistant Manager Lejumol, and a large number of devotees attended the function.
During the event, Minister Muralidharan presented mementos on behalf of the Devaswom to Sanal Kumar, who sponsored the renovation work, Nadavarambu Unnikrishnan Menon, who carried out the restoration, and other workers who contributed to the project. The ceremony marked the successful completion of the restoration of one of the temple’s prominent heritage structures.
