Kozhikode: The Kozhikode regional leadership meeting of the BJP OBC Morcha has demanded that the Kerala government end its policy of distributing reservation benefits meant for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) on a religious basis.
The meeting, held at the BJP district committee office in Kozhikode, was inaugurated by OBC Morcha state president M. Preman Master. The leaders alleged that granting special reservation benefits to certain religious groups included in the OBC list is unconstitutional and deprives genuinely backward communities of their rightful benefits.
The OBC Morcha also organised an “OBC Rights Protection Dharna” in front of district collectorates, demanding the abolition of what it termed “dual reservation” for communities that already receive minority reservation benefits.
The organisation announced that it will hold OBC Rights Protection Dharna protests at collectorates across Kerala from June 22 to 30, seeking an end to dual reservation and the protection of reservation benefits for eligible backward communities.
District-level leaders from Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod attended the meeting. State IT Convener Prabeesh Marad chaired the session, while district vice-president and councillor T. Raneesh delivered the keynote address. State General Secretary K. Shaibu outlined the agitation programme, and state secretaries Vijayan Vattipuram, Radha Suresh and state committee member N.P. Prakashan also spoke.
