Congress leader Shanimol Osman was elected Deputy Speaker of the 16th Kerala Legislative Assembly on Tuesday.
In the Kerala Assembly elections, Congress leader Shanimol Osman was elected as an MLA after defeating CPI candidate Daleema. Later, she was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly by defeating CPI MLA Muhammad Muhsin from Pattambi, who was the Left Democratic Front (LDF) nominee for the post.
Shanimol Osman’s victory in both contests marked a significant achievement for the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in the Assembly.
The Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), which enjoys a comfortable majority in the 140-member House with 102 MLAs, secured the Deputy Speaker’s post without difficulty.
Shanimol Osman’s election further strengthens the UDF’s position in the Assembly following its victory in the recent state elections. Members across party lines congratulated her after the announcement of the results.
The Deputy Speaker plays a key role in presiding over Assembly proceedings in the absence of the Speaker and ensuring the smooth functioning of the House.
