The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Malappuram district over the next three hours and issued weather warnings for several districts across Kerala.
A Yellow Alert has been issued for Monday in Kannur, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Malappuram, Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts, indicating the possibility of heavy rainfall at isolated places.
For Tuesday, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Thrissur, Palakkad, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kottayam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta districts.
The weather department has also warned of the possibility of landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas due to continued rainfall.
With thunderstorms and lightning likely to accompany the rain, authorities have advised people to avoid elevated and open areas and to follow safety precautions issued by disaster management agencies.
Residents in hilly and landslide-prone regions have been urged to remain vigilant and monitor official weather updates.
