A violent clash broke out between two groups of inmates inside the jail in Kapurthala on Saturday night, sources said.
According to reports, prisoners vandalised jail property, damaged the wall of barrack number four and allegedly attempted to set a section of the prison on fire.
Following the incident, senior police and prison officials reached the jail along with a large security contingent to bring the situation under control.
Police have not yet issued an official statement on the incident.
