West Bengal Signs PM SHRI Scheme After Change in Government

The newly formed government in West Bengal has signed the agreement to implement the PM SHRI Scheme, marking a major policy shift from the previous administration.

Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari signed the agreement within days of the new government assuming office. The earlier government led by Mamata Banerjee had refused to join the centrally sponsored PM SHRI scheme.

With West Bengal joining the programme, Kerala and Tamil Nadu remain the only states yet to implement the scheme.

The Centre is now reportedly making fresh efforts to roll out the PM SHRI scheme in Kerala and Tamil Nadu as well, especially after recent political changes in both states.

Kerala had earlier given an initial nod to the scheme and was close to signing the agreement. However, the state later withdrew from the move after opposition from the Communist Party of India (CPI).
