Twenty-eight people belonging to the Naga and Kuki communities, who were taken hostage by armed groups in Manipur’s Kangpokpi and Senapati districts, have been released, police said on Friday.
A total of 38 people were reportedly abducted and taken to unknown locations following a series of violent incidents in the state.
The abductions came after suspected militants shot dead three church leaders and injured four others in Kangpokpi district on Wednesday. In a separate incident in Noney district, a civilian was killed while his wife sustained injuries in a firing attack.
Police officials said 12 Naga women from Konsakhul village, who had been held captive by armed militants, were released at Makhan village.
Security has been tightened in the affected areas following the incidents.
