Construction work on the Anakkampoyil-Kalladi tunnel road project, aimed at improving connectivity to Wayanad, has been intensified.
The decision to speed up the project came after a team of senior officials visited the project site last week to review the progress of the work.
Members of the State Expert Appraisal Committee, along with officials from Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB), the Public Works Department and Konkan Railway Corporation inspected the construction area.
The tunnel is being built using the New Austrian Tunnelling Method, a technique that relies on the natural strength of surrounding rock formations for primary support during excavation.
Officials said all necessary environmental safeguards are being followed as part of the construction process.
The project is expected to be completed within four years. Authorities are planning to carry out excavation simultaneously from both ends of the tunnel to speed up the work.
