Bankura/Purulia: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday stepped up his attack on the Trinamool Congress (TMC), accusing the party of “betraying” women by opposing the Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament.
Addressing a series of rallies across Bankura, Purulia, Jhargram and Medinipur, Modi sought to turn the Centre’s recent setback over the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill into a key election issue ahead of the West Bengal Assembly polls.
Highlighting the importance of women voters, who form a significant portion of the electorate in the state, the Prime Minister said they would respond to the TMC’s stance in the upcoming elections.
He also framed the elections as a broader battle over West Bengal’s identity, language and culture, alleging that the TMC government has encouraged infiltration, neglected tribal communities and allowed corruption to persist.
The rallies were held in the politically significant Junglemahal region and nearby districts, where electoral outcomes are expected to play a crucial role in the state polls.
