Valparai (Tamil Nadu): Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed grief over the tragic road accident in Valparai near Pollachi, where the death toll has risen to nine.
Calling the incident deeply saddening, the Chief Minister said he shares the grief of the bereaved families. He also stated that authorities have been directed to ensure the best possible medical treatment for those injured and assured that the government will extend all necessary support to the victims’ families.
According to reports, seven women and two children were among those killed in the accident. The victims were part of a group from Malappuram district who had gone on a leisure trip. They included teachers, staff, and family members associated with Pang Chendi Parammal LP School.
The accident occurred when the van lost control at a curve, crashed through a protective barrier, and plunged nearly 300 feet into a gorge.
