New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday paid tributes to the martyrs of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, remembering those who lost their lives during the tragic incident in 1919.
In a message shared on X, the President said the nation will always remain grateful to the freedom fighters who made the ultimate sacrifice. She expressed confidence that their spirit of patriotism would continue to inspire people to serve the nation with dedication and commitment.
The Jallianwala Bagh massacre took place in Amritsar, where hundreds of unarmed civilians had gathered peacefully to protest against the Rowlatt Act. British forces opened fire on the crowd without warning, resulting in one of the darkest chapters of India’s freedom struggle.
The day is observed to honour the victims and remember their sacrifice in the fight against colonial rule.
