11,000 Litres of Milk Poured into Narmada; Environmentalists Raise Concerns

Nearly 11,000 litres of milk were poured into the Narmada River in Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore district as part of a religious ritual, drawing criticism from environmentalists over its possible impact on the ecosystem.

The incident took place in Satdev village in the Bherunda area, around 90 km from the district headquarters, during the conclusion of a 21-day religious event. The ceremony ended with a mahayagna on Wednesday.

Organisers said the milk was offered to the river as part of prayers for the purity of the water, the well-being of pilgrims, and overall prosperity.

However, environmentalists have raised concerns that pouring such a large quantity of milk into the river could affect water quality and harm aquatic life. Experts noted that adding organic substances in large amounts can disturb the ecological balance of a water body.

The incident has sparked a debate on balancing religious practices with environmental responsibility.
