Mumbai Man Duped of ₹1.57 Crore in ‘Digital Arrest’ Cyber Fraud

A 69-year-old retired man from Andheri was cheated of ₹1.57 crore in a “digital arrest” cyber fraud, police said on Monday. According to officials, the victim was contacted in December by fraudsters who accused him of circulating obscene content and threatened legal action.

The scammers allegedly posed as police officers and even staged a fake courtroom scenario to intimidate him. They warned him of immediate arrest unless he transferred his money to “official” accounts for investigation. Fearing arrest, the victim transferred the entire amount. The fraudsters then stopped all communication.

Police said a rickshaw driver has been arrested for assisting the accused in routing and parking the defrauded money. Further investigation is underway.
