Coal India boosts coal supplies to power sector

New Delhi: Coal India Ltd (CIL) recorded a 7.6 per cent rise in coal offtake during the first half of FY 2026-27, reaching 384.2 million tonnes (MT), compared with 357 MT in the same period last year.

Coal supplies to the power sector rose 6.1 per cent to 302.8 MT during the period, accounting for nearly 79 per cent of CIL’s total offtake.

In September, CIL’s overall coal supplies increased 12.5 per cent to 61.2 MT, while supplies to the power sector rose 10.63 per cent to 48.9 MT. The company also liquidated 63 MT of pithead coal stocks during the first half of the fiscal, supporting increased supplies to power plants.
