Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India is pushing for dialogue and diplomacy to resolve the ongoing West Asia conflict, while calling any disruption of the Strait of Hormuz unacceptable.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha, he noted that the crisis has been impacting the global economy and highlighted India’s concerns, given its dependence on the region for energy and the presence of nearly one crore Indians in Gulf countries.
Modi assured that the government is in constant touch with global suppliers to ensure uninterrupted oil and gas supplies and is taking steps to minimise any impact on citizens. He also said Indian nationals in the region are being provided necessary support, with assurances received from foreign leaders regarding their safety.
The Prime Minister added that power plants have adequate coal stocks and that India remains prepared in terms of food security. Reiterating India’s position, he said dialogue and diplomacy remain the only path to resolving the crisis.
