PK Kunhalikutty, National general secretary of the Indian Union Muslim League, is set to contest from Malappuram constituency in the upcoming Kerala assembly elections. Party sources say a new candidate is being considered for the Vengara constituency, where Kunhalikutty had previously elected. Kunhalikutty is returning to contest from his first elected constituency after three decades.
Leaders believe that the presence of the party’s district headquarters in the Malappuram constituency could strengthen his chances of winning.
Meanwhile, the current MLA from Malappuram, P Ubaidullah, who has represented the constituency for three consecutive terms, is unlikely to get a seat this time.
The Muslim league leadership has also reportedly selected candidates for the 17 seats the party plans to contest in the election.
