Delhi: The Google Play Store has introduced a new feature that alerts users if an app is likely to drain their smartphone battery quickly. The update is designed to help Android users identify power-hungry applications before downloading them, allowing them to make better decisions and improve overall smartphone performance.
With the new update, some app pages on the Play Store will display a warning message stating that the app may use more battery than expected. This message will appear directly on the app’s listing page, enabling users to see the information before installing the app. The warnings are based on real usage data collected from Android devices.
Google uses a system called Android Vitals to monitor how apps perform on smartphones. If an app consistently consumes more battery power than normal, it may receive this warning label. The feature is being rolled out gradually, and users are expected to see these warnings on more apps in the coming weeks.
Some apps consume more battery because they continue running tasks in the background even when the phone screen is off. A feature called “partial wake lock” allows apps to keep the phone’s processor active for functions like music playback, navigation, or messaging. However, excessive use of this feature can drain battery quickly. Apps that consume too much battery may also face reduced visibility on the Play Store, which could affect their downloads and user engagement.
