The UAE authorities have announced a waiver on overstay fines for certain visa holders. The decision was issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security (ICP). The exemption applies to visitors holding tourist or visit visas, individuals with exit permits, and residents whose residency permits were cancelled to facilitate their departure from the country. The special concession will cover fines imposed on or after February 28, 2026, providing much-needed support to those unable to leave the country due to circumstances beyond their control.
Normally, individuals who overstay their visas in the UAE are required to pay a fine of 50 dirhams per day. However, authorities said the penalty has been waived considering the extraordinary situation caused by airspace restrictions and suspended flight services. The move is aimed at helping affected travelers regularize their legal status and return home without financial burden. Officials also noted that there is still no clear timeline for the full resumption of flight operations, leaving many travelers awaiting further updates.
