Thiruvananthapuram: In a deeply moving tribute, Kerala will accord official honours to 10-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham, the youngest organ donor in the state, who was declared brain dead after a tragic road accident in Pathanamthitta. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that the funeral will take place at Nedungadappally St. Thomas Church on Sunday at 3:30 pm.
Alin’s final gift has already brought hope to two children, who received her donated organs and are now recovering, according to hospital authorities. In the midst of unimaginable grief, her parents made the courageous and compassionate decision to donate her organs — a gesture hailed across the state as an extraordinary act of humanity.
Initially, authorities had planned to transport the organs from Kochi to Thiruvananthapuram by helicopter. However, due to the lack of night-time clearance for civil aviation helicopters, the organs were transported by road, the Chief Minister explained.
The accident occurred on February 5 at around 2:30 pm near Pallom Borma Junction on MC Road while the family was travelling from Kottayam to Thiruvalla. A vehicle coming from the opposite direction collided with their car, critically injuring the infant. Her mother and maternal grandparents also sustained serious injuries. Despite intensive treatment at hospitals in Changanassery, Thiruvalla, and later at Amrita Hospital in Kochi, Alin was declared brain dead on February 13.
Though her life was heartbreakingly short, Alin Sherin’s legacy is immense. In her passing, she has become a symbol of compassion and hope — a little angel whose final act has touched an entire state.
