The Ministry of Railways has approved surveys for preparing Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for seven proposed high-speed rail corridors across the state. The proposed corridors are designed with the potential to support train speeds of up to 160 kmph, marking a major step toward modernising Kerala’s rail network.
Officials said the DPR surveys will assess technical feasibility, land requirements, environmental impact, and cost estimates for upgrading and developing the corridors. The move is aimed at improving travel time, enhancing passenger comfort, and strengthening connectivity between key cities and commercial hubs in Kerala.
Once implemented, the high-speed corridors are expected to significantly reduce travel duration across the state, ease congestion on existing routes, and improve overall operational efficiency. The initiative aligns with the Indian Railways’ broader vision of semi-high-speed rail expansion and infrastructure modernisation.
The approval of DPR surveys marks the first formal step toward transforming Kerala’s railway system into a faster and more efficient transport network capable of meeting rising passenger demand.
