Third Rape Case: Court Extends Remand, MLA Rahul Mamkootathil to Remain in Judicial Custody

Palakkad: MLA Rahul Mamkootathil will continue to remain in jail as the court on Tuesday extended his remand period in connection with the third rape case registered against him. The order was passed by the Thiruvalla Judicial First Class Magistrate Court after accepting a plea filed by the Special Investigation Team (SIT).

Rahul was remanded to judicial custody on the 11th of this month for a period of 14 days in the third case. With the remand period coming to an end today, the SIT approached the court seeking an extension, citing the need to proceed with further investigation. The court allowed the request and extended the remand.

The MLA is currently lodged at the Mavelikkara Special Sub Jail. Meanwhile, arguments on his bail application have already concluded, and the court is expected to deliver its verdict on the bail plea next Wednesday. The case continues to draw public and political attention as the investigation progresses.
