Kochi: Gold prices in the state have once again surged past the ₹1 lakh mark, underscoring renewed investor demand for the yellow metal. A sharp single-day increase of ₹1,160 per sovereign (8 grams) pushed the price to ₹1,00,760, while the per-gram rate climbed by ₹145 to ₹12,595.
Gold had first crossed the psychological ₹1 lakh level on December 23 and continued its upward march, hitting an all-time high of ₹1,04,440 per sovereign on December 27. Although prices dipped below ₹1 lakh in the days that followed, the upward trend has resumed since yesterday.
Market experts attribute the fresh rally to fluctuations in the international market. Global uncertainties, including US military action in Venezuela, have driven investors towards gold as a safe-haven asset, fuelling the latest price surge in Kerala’s bullion market.
