Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said that the landmark achievement of completing five lakh houses under the LIFE (Livelihood, Inclusion and Financial Empowerment) Housing Scheme will be reached next month. He was speaking at a press conference in Thiruvananthapuram.
So far, 4,76,076 houses have been completed and handed over under the LIFE Mission, enabling an equal number of families to move into secure and permanent homes. The Chief Minister said the milestone of five lakh completed houses will be achieved in February. At present, 1,24,471 houses are under construction at various stages.
Referring to the broader vision behind the scheme, the Chief Minister said a fundamental political question facing governments worldwide is whether their responsibility is to ensure basic rights for citizens or to withdraw from welfare activities and make way for private capital. The Kerala government, CM said, has addressed this question through comprehensive, people-centric initiatives like the LIFE Mission.
CM added that the LIFE Housing Scheme reflects the state’s commitment to providing safe housing as a basic right and strengthening social welfare.
