Food Safety Department Conducts Extensive Monsoon Inspections Across Thrissur District

Thrissur: As part of efforts to ensure food safety during the monsoon season, the Food Safety Department carried out extensive inspections across Thrissur district. Around 60 inspections were conducted by special squads operating in the Thrissur, Chalakudy, Nattika, and Irinjalakuda circles.

Authorities issued compounding notices and imposed penalties on nine establishments where serious violations were detected. Four rectification notices and one improvement notice were also served to establishments found with minor deficiencies.

To assess the quality and safety of food products available in the market, officials collected 15 food samples from various locations and sent them to laboratories for detailed analysis.

Water tanker lorries supplying drinking water in the district were also subjected to strict inspections. Officials directed operators to comply fully with food safety and hygiene standards while transporting and distributing drinking water.

During the inspections, food items including ice cream and chicken that were stored under hazardous and unhygienic conditions posing risks to public health were seized and destroyed. Officials also confiscated and disposed of expired packet milk found during the raids.

Thrissur Food Safety Assistant Commissioner V. S. Indu stated that stringent inspections under the special drive titled ‘Operation Monsoon’ will continue in the coming days to ensure food safety and protect public health during the rainy season.
