Munnar Gripped by Intense Cold as Temperatures Drop to 3°C, Tourists Flock In

Munnar has slipped into an intense cold spell, recording the lowest temperature of the season at 3 degrees Celsius, turning the hill station into a winter wonderland. The sharp dip was reported from Munnar town, Nallathanni, Thenmala, Chittavara, and the lower division of Chenduvara Estate.

Widespread frost covered the grasslands, offering a striking early-morning spectacle. While Lakshmi Estate and Chokkanadu recorded a minimum of 4°C, Sevenmala saw temperatures fall to 5°C. The plunging mercury has injected fresh excitement into the tourism sector.

With the monsoon completely withdrawn, weather officials expect temperatures to drop further, possibly below the freezing point in the coming days. Just a day earlier, Munnar had recorded a minimum of 6°C, highlighting the rapid intensification of the cold wave.

As the Christmas and New Year holiday season begins, tourist footfall in Munnar is steadily rising, with visitors arriving in large numbers to experience the misty mornings, frosty landscapes, and biting winter chill.
