Kerala Students Get a Surprise: Christmas Holidays Stretched to 11 Days

Thiruvananthapuram: Christmas has come early for school students in Kerala, with the state government announcing an extended 11-day holiday this year. The festive break, typically lasting 10 days, has been stretched after Christmas exam dates were shifted to accommodate the local body elections.

The Christmas examinations, which began on December 15, will wrap up on December 23. Schools will officially close for the vacation on December 24, reopening only on January 5, as per the Education Department’s latest directive.

Thanks to the added weekends, students will now spend less than half of December in classrooms.
The upcoming elections have also boosted the holiday count—schools serving as polling booths or housing EVMs will enjoy additional off days, making this one of the longest Christmas breaks in recent years.
