Rahul Easwar Denied Bail; Sent to Judicial Custody in Cyber Harassment Case

Thiruvananthapuram: Social activist Rahul Easwar has been remanded to judicial custody after the Thiruvananthapuram District Court denied him bail in a cyber harassment case. The case pertains to allegedly revealing the identity of the survivor in the sexual assault case filed against Palakkad MLA Rahul Mankootathil. According to the court, crucial video evidence was recovered from Rahul Easwar’s laptop, which played a key role in rejecting his bail plea. The court stated that the visuals found on the device required detailed examination, following which the remand order was issued. The case was registered by the Thiruvananthapuram Cyber Police based on the complaint filed by the survivor. Rahul Easwar has been charged under cybercrime provisions for insulting womanhood, defaming the survivor, and portraying the victim in a derogatory manner. Section 75(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has also been added to the case. Police had earlier seized both his laptop and mobile phone during the investigation. He was taken into custody last evening and questioned at the AR Camp before being formally arrested. Rahul is said to have admitted that the defamatory video was uploaded from his laptop, and investigators later discovered the same video on his phone, which led to its seizure as well.
