FIR Filed Against Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkootathil Over Alleged Sexual Exploitation and Coerced Abortion

A major political storm has erupted in Kerala after police registered a serious case against Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, following a woman’s complaint accusing him of rape, sexual exploitation, threats, and forcing her to undergo an abortion. The FIR names multiple grave offences, including rape on the pretext of marriage, obtaining consent through deception, criminal intimidation, trespass, and violations under the IT Act.

According to the complaint, the woman alleges that the MLA sexually assaulted her, exploited her emotionally, and later coerced her into terminating her pregnancy by administering abortion pills inside a car. When she resisted, the accused allegedly threatened her through video calls and warned her against revealing the incident. Police say digital evidence — including chats, audio clips and medical records — has been collected as part of the investigation.

The FIR, initially filed at Valiyamala Police Station and later transferred to Nemom police, prompted authorities to issue a lookout notice at all airports and state borders to prevent the MLA from fleeing. The investigation is being closely monitored by senior officials due to the severity of the charges, which fall under non-bailable sections and carry long prison sentences if proven.

Rahul Mamkootathil, already suspended from the Congress after earlier harassment allegations, now faces mounting public pressure and political backlash. The latest case has sparked widespread outrage, with demands for his immediate arrest and accountability from within and outside the political spectrum.

As the probe intensifies, the case is expected to have significant legal and political ramifications, marking one of the most serious allegations against a sitting legislator in recent years.
