President Droupadi Murmu is set to create history by becoming the first President of India to address the Odisha Legislative Assembly, marking a momentous occasion in the State’s political history. Her visit carries added emotional significance, as she will also step into the very chamber where she once sat as a Minister in the Odisha government.
President Murmu’s address is scheduled as part of the special session organised to commemorate the Assembly’s legacy and Odisha’s contribution to Indian democracy. Officials said her speech will highlight the State’s cultural richness, democratic values, and ongoing developmental initiatives.
This will be the first time a sitting President delivers an address inside the Odisha Assembly, making it a landmark event for both the State and the nation. Security arrangements have been intensified ahead of her arrival, and the Assembly complex has been adorned for the occasion.
Political leaders across party lines have welcomed the announcement, calling it a “proud moment for Odisha,” especially as President Murmu hails from the State and has deep-rooted connections with its tribal regions.
